Pre-test protocol

  • DEXA

    CLOTHING

    • Loose fitting workout-type clothes. Compression clothing can give inaccurate results.

    • No loose bulky clothing, like jeans, cargo pants or clothes with lots of pockets

    • Ideally no zippers or buttons

    • Sports bra/athletic bra or tank with no underwire

    • We recommend shorts and a tank top or t-shirt for best results. We want to scan you in your body’s most natural state with your body relaxing onto the table

    JEWELRY

    • Remove all metal and jewelry

    • This includes underwire bras

    FOOD/WATER

    • No calcium supplements. This includes Tums and similar products

    • Fast for 2 hours prior to scan for the clearest scan possible

    • Arrive hydrated

  • VO2

    CLOTHING

    • Comfortable workout clothes

    • Running shoes for treadmill test

    • Athletic shoes or cycling shoes with SPD cleats for cycling test

    EXERCISE

    • This test is best when fully rested. We recommend refraining from heavy exercise for 24 hours prior to your test

    FOOD/WATER

    • Do not eat or drink anything except water for 4 hours prior to your test

    • Do not consume alcohol or use nicotine for 24 hours prior to your test

    • Please take your regularly prescribed medications

  • RMR

    CLOTHING

    • Come as you are - no special clothing indicated for this test

    EXERCISE

    • Test is most accurate if you have not exercised immediately prior to the test

    FOOD/WATER

    • This test is most accurate if you have fasted for 4-5 hour prior to the test, having only water

    • Best if you have refrained from stimulants on the day of your test (this includes medications) and avoid alcohol within 12 hours of the test
